Incepand cu iPhone 3GS Apple a imbunatatit anual chip-urile grafice incluse in iDevice-urile sale iar acum iPad 2 si iPhone 4S au chip-ul grafic dual-core PowerVR SGX543-MP2 produs de compania Imagination. Astazi compania Imagination a anuntat lansarea celei de-a 6-a generatii de chip-uri din seria PowerVR, chip-uri care ar putea ajunge in iPhone 5 si iPad 4(daca nu chiar si iPad 3). G6400 si G6200 sunt numele celor doua noi chip-uri iar ele aduc performante de pana la 20 de ori mai bune decat cele ale altor chip-uri disponibile acum pe piata insa sunt si de 5 ori mai eficiente in ceea ce priveste consumul de energie.

Imagination se lauda ca aceste chip-uri au cu cel mai mare numar de GFLOPS per mW si per milimetru patrat iar Apple ar putea beneficia din plin de ele. Exista deja o sumedenie de companii care si-au anuntat intentia de a licentia tehnologia conceputa de catre cei de la Imagination si cred ca Apple va face acelasi lucru insa fara a anunta pe cineva.
