Stim cu totii ca toate terminalele mobile au o mare problema comuna si ea este autonomia bateriei. Desi producatorii de terminale mobile se lauda anual cu performante tot mai bune, din pacate niciunul nu rezolva problema autonomiei bateriei, insa o companie americana promite sa faca acest lucru. Ea a fost fondata de fosti cercetatori ai MIT si promite sa dubleze autonomia bateriei smartphone-urilor si sa reduca semnificativ consumul de energie al chip-urilor LTE din terminale mobile.
t’s currently a lab-bench technology, but if it proves itself in commercialization, which is expected to start in 2013—first targeting LTE base stations—the technology could slash base station energy use by half. Likewise, a chip-scale version of the technology, still in development, could double the battery life of smartphones. Power amplifiers use transistors that consume power in two basic modes: standby mode and output signal mode when sending out pulses of digital data. The only way to improve their efficiency is to use the lowest amount of standby power possible. But making sudden jumps from low-power standby mode to high-power output mode tends to distort signals, so existing technologies keep standby power levels high, wasting electricity.
Imbunatatirea autonomiei si reducerea consumului se va face prin modificarea amplificatoarelor de putere si a modului in care functioneaza acestea, compania nespecificand daca alte modele de baterii vor fi lansate. ETA Devices este numele aceste companii, ea isi propune sa faca o demonstratie publica a tehnologiei in luna februarie a anului 2013, iar pentru inceput ea ar urma sa fie disponibila pentru generatoare, apoi urmand pe lista terminalele mobile.
Ca sa fiu sincer, daca tehnologia se dovedeste a fi utila si poate fi comercializata, cred ca va revolutiona terminalele mobile si nu numai, insa totul depinde de felul in care ea ar urma sa ajunga pe piata.
