iCloud a fost tentativa Apple de a “omora” Dropbox

  Cu destul timp in urma v-am spus ca Steve Jobs a fost la un moment dat hotarat sa achizitioneze Dropbox, insa fondatorii companiei au refuzat sa isi vanda creatia catre cei din Cupertino, lucru care nu l-a multumit chiar atat de mult pe Jobs. Imposibilitatea de a achizitiona compania care are sute de milioane de utilizatori in lumea intreaga l-a motivat pe Jobs sa porneasca intr-o cursa de “distrugere” a serviciilor oferite de catre ea si astfel sistemul iCloud a luat nastere.

Jobs struck Houston as a straight talker. He told him he returned to Apple because he was frustrated that a company that convinced customers to pay a total of $7 billion a year to use their products could still lose $1 billion. But he was also direct with Houston, telling him that if he couldn’t acquire his startup, was going to come after Dropbox. Six months after that meeting, Houston was watching a Jobs keynote and saw him make good on that promise.

“He was calling out by name and saying he wants to kill us with iCloud,” Houston said.

  Desi Jobs a lansat pe piata iCloud in 2011 si serviciul are sute de milioane de utilizatori in lumea intreaga, totusi functionalitatea sistemului conceput de catre Apple este diferita si limitata. Dropbox-ul iti ofera posibilitatea de a incarca si partaja orice tip de fisiere, in timp ce iCloud-ul se rezuma doar la fisiere necesare din iDevice-uri, care(cu exceptia pozelor) nu pot fi partajate undeva deoarece compania nu permite acest lucru, ba mai mult, nu-ti ofera acces la datele de baza.

  iCloud ca o tentativa de a “ucide” Dropbox este un esec, insa ca si serviciu simplu, util pentru posesorii de iDevice-uri, este un succes.
