Jony Ive a dat recent un interviu publicatiei Financial Times vorbind despre istoricul sau in cadrul companiei Apple si cum acest lucru i-a schimbat viata si modul in care priveste produsele electronice. Jony Ive sustine ca Mac-ul l-a facut sa iubeasca calculatoarele, vorbeste despre diferentele dintre dezvoltarea telefoanelor mobile, a smartwatch-urilor si multe, multe altele. Conform lui Ive, viziunea sa cu privire la calculatoare si design a fost schimbata de catre primul Macintosh, el fiind initial sceptic in a utiliza calculatoare pana in momentul in care a intrat in contact cu un Mac.
I was inherently sceptical and didn’t like using a computer at art school. I remember discovering the Mac just at the end of my course. What shocked me was that via this object I became aware of the people who had designed, developed and made it. So in a way I wasn’t actually that interested in the Mac itself, but did have a clear sense of the humanity within it […] I think you start to develop a relationship with the product, in that you feel it’s the result of the great care taken by the people who worked together to develop it. And you respond to that.
Ive se afla in scoala pentru design si a descoperit pentru prima oara Mac-ul la finalul unui curs, fiind socat de faptul ca produsul l-a facut sa fie atent la oamenii care l-au conceput, creat si care i-au produs design-ul. Ive sustine ca nu produsul in sine l-a interesat, ci umanitatea din el, vicepresedintele Apple incepand sa aiba o relatie cu produsul, relatie care l-a facut atent la grija avuta de catre oamenii care l-au conceput.
This is difficult to describe and it could be misinterpreted very easily, but there is a sense of almost serving your fellow humans. While people might not be able to articulate why they care and why they prefer one thing over the other, I really think that most people are very discerning.
Conform lui Ive, atentia la detaliile design-ului unui produs este data de umanitatea echipei sale si de modul in care acestia va crearea unui produs cu servirea omenirii. Desi acest lucru nu este foarte cunoscut, Jony Ive lucreaza la produse cu aceeasi intensitate precum Steve Jobs, atentia pe care o acorda produselor “eliberandu-l” de grijile legate de pretul actiunilor Apple si evolutia companiei. Perhaps the least emotionally loaded way of describing Jobs would be intense. There is also some of that intensity about the way Ive works, and it is this professional focus that liberates him from worrying too much about Apple’s share price and its effect on the US dollar. He says the design team is not “distracted by or overly concerned with the ramifications of what we do, because we’re so consumed by design and trying to solve problems. I think being fanatical and myopic are fundamental to our approach.”
Jony Ive sustine ca este preocupat in principal de crearea de produse grozave si nu de cat de bine se vand ele, el si echipa sa fiind extrem de critici, testand diverse versiuni ale aceluiasi produs pana la a-l alege pe cel “perfect”. Crearea design-ului Apple Watch a fost o experienta complet diferita fata de cea de creare a design-ului pentru iPhone deoarece el si echipa sa aveau un punct de vedere diferit cu privire la ceasuri. Daca la conceperea iPhone designerii doreau ceva care sa nu le provoace sila, precum telefoanele momentului, in cazul Apple Watch designerii cautau ceva diferit pentru produse pe care le iubeau, pentru produse ale caror design il apreciau.
I’m much more concerned about how we can make them as good as possible than how many we’ll sell. We’re brutally self-critical and go through countless iterations of each product. It was different with the phone – all of us working on the first iPhone were driven by an absolute disdain for the cellphones we were using at the time. That’s not the case here. We’re a group of people who love our watches. So we’re working on something, yet have a high regard for what currently exists.
