Studiile practic propun ca blocurile de grafit ( clasificate drept reziduuri nucleare) in loc sa fie ingropate, sa fie transformate in diamante care genereaza electricitate.
Pentru obtinerea acestor baterii, blocurile de grafit sunt incalzite, iar gazul carbon-14 este colectat si transformat ulterior in diamante cu ajutorul temperaturilor foarte inalte si al presiunilor scazute. Cand sunt formate, particulele beta emise de C14 interactioneaza cu cristalul, producand electricitate.
Aceste diamante radioactive sunt acoperite cu un alt strat protector, astfel ca oamenii nu vor fi expusi unor cantitati periculoase de radiatii.
