Substitute este prima reala alternativa pentru platforma Substrate, cea in baza careia functioneaza majoritatea tweak-urilor lansate in ultimii ani in Cydia, aceasta din urma fiind dezvoltata de catre creatorul Cydia. Substitute in schimb este dezvoltata de catre binecunoscutul hacker dezvoltator de solutii de jailbreak si fost angajat Apple, comex, el ajutand la crearea iMods, o alternativa pentru Cydia. Primul pas spre lansare acestei alternative a fost crearea platformei Substitute, el folosindu-si experienta vasta in programare pentru a dezvolta acest framework si a lansa prima versiune alpha pentru el.

Substitute poate fi utilizat atat pentru iOS, cat si pentru Android, insa problema este ca in momentul de fata el nu este pregatit pentru a fi utilizat la scara larga, avand in continuare nevoie de foarte multa pregatire. In aceasta idee, comex isi anunta fanii ca toti cei interesati sa testeze Substitute trebuie sa fie pregatiti sa intampine foarte multe probleme, asa ca doar cei care stiu intr-adevar ce fac ar trebui sa testeze platforma. comex a publicat versiunea alpha a Substitute si orice persoana interesata o poate testa sau chiar modifica si imbunatati, iar in momentul de fata nu se stie cand va fi ea disponibila macar in versiune beta.
