Romanian post decided to publish a series of extremely important explanations, with a warning aimed at millions of Romanians from all over the country, and this because he wants to clarify the erroneous information that appeared in the public space regarding his development strategy.
Romanian post emphasizes that it is in a continuous process of transformation, pursuing adaptation to the current needs of customers, operational efficiency and alignment with international trends in the postal services sector. Contrary to rumors, Posta Romana does not intend to reduce its presence at the national level.
In recent years, the company has consolidated its network, managing in 2023 to have at least one employee in every administrative-territorial unit in Romania. Closing post offices is not a priority, but is part of a natural and continuous network adjustment process, started 34 years ago.
Romanian Post says that annually, approximately 500 postal subunits are closed, while new ones are opened. The last-mile delivery network, made up of postmen, couriers and postal agents, is in full process of consolidation and modernization, currently having over 11.000 employees.
The Director General of the Romanian Post emphasized that some post offices are unprofitable and that most European postal companies have adopted policies to reduce the territorial presence through physical offices. The Romanian Post aligns itself with this modernization trend, transforming its network into a PUDO (pick-up drop-off points) network, both in its own system and in franchise mode.
The Romanian Post also conveys that the reduction of presence through postal subunits is achieved gradually, through the natural exit of employees from the system, and not abruptly, as happened in Hungary in 2023 and 2024, when more than 400 post offices were closed.
The problem of the unprofitability of some postal subunits is a serious one and requires an in-depth debate. For approximately 1.000 rural post offices, the average monthly income is approximately 1.700 lei, while expenses reach approximately 8.000 lei per month. In this context, the profitable urban subunits will benefit from modernization and adaptation to customer requirements.
One of the main objectives of the management of the Romanian Post is to ensure a high-performing management and the constant increase of the company's income through appropriate economic decisions, which do not negatively affect the direct beneficiaries. The goal is to generate additional resources that will be reinvested in modernization and the transformation of the company, adapting it to the requirements of the future, as has been done in recent years.
