The Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, announced today that the project to modernize the Roman - Iasi - Ungheni railway line has obtained the environmental agreement, marking an important step for the development of the railway infrastructure in the north-east of the country.
"It is an expected investment in the north-east of the country, which ensures good premises for passenger and freight traffic to grow on this railway segment, under safe conditions", declared Fechet. The modernization will allow passenger trains to move at least 160 km/h, and freight trains at 120 km/h, after the completion of infrastructure rehabilitation works on a 140 km section, in Neamt and Iasi counties.
Within the project, the doubling and electrification of the railway line between Socola and Ungheni - Prut resorts is foreseen. Line 3 Iasi - Letcani will also be inaugurated, with a length of 9.055 meters, which will ensure access to the metropolitan train, thus improving urban connectivity.
All the works will be carried out in accordance with the environmental legislation, and the Minister of the Environment emphasized the importance of environmental protection: "I am glad that the investment includes the increase of the area of the forest curtains. We manage to take important steps in infrastructure projects, but with care for nature!"
In addition to his role as a minister, Mircea Fechet took the oath today for his second mandate as a deputy in the Romanian Parliament, for the period 2024-2028. "My oath is to all Romanians, but especially to the people of Bacau who expect from me projects and laws that will make their lives better and safer", he declared.
As a member of the environmental commission, Fechet promised to support the initiatives started at the ministry and launch many new ones. "The year 2025 will be about the water we all need: municipalities or cities, farmers or the national energy sector."
The minister concluded with a call for unity and political responsibility: "Romania needs stability and responsible politicians, not crises or conflicts that divide society. The National Liberal Party will continue to support a modern Romania, fundamental rights and freedoms and be a reliable partner in a pro-European and pro-Western coalition."
The investment in the modernization of the Romanian-Iasi-Ungheni railway line promises to bring significant benefits for the transport of passengers and goods, contributing to the economic and social development of the north-eastern region of Romania.
