Sorin Grindeanu, Minister of Transport, stated today that a new meeting is taking place in Bucharest with Szijjarto Peter, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The meeting comes in the context of strengthening the collaboration between Romania and Hungary as member states of the Schengen Area.
"The port of Constanta is now more accessible to Hungarian industry, which contributes to strengthening our economies. Both Romania and Hungary are becoming more attractive to investors," Grindeanu said.
Sorin to Grindean stressed the importance of improving transport connections between the two countries and plans to build new strategic transport arteries, including expressways such as the DEx Satu Mare-Oar in Romania and the DEx M49 in Hungary, the DEx Arad-Oradea in Romania and the M44 Motorway in Hungary, as well as the Beba Veche in Romania and Kubekhaza in Hungary.
It was also agreed to build a new bridge over the Mures River, which will ensure the connection between the localities of Cenad in Romania and Magyarcsanad in Hungary. Domestically, Minister Grindeanu provided details about the evolution of the Lot 4 project of the A0 Nord, which covers the Pantelimon-Glina section.
"The Romanian builder has made significant progress with the works on the Cernica bridge, the most difficult structure on this lot. The drilling for the bridge foundations must be completed by the end of March 2025, according to the environmental agreement," Grindeanu explained.
Sorin Grindeanu specifies that the physical state of the entire construction site has reached 30%, and if the contractor maintains its pace, it is expected that the entire 4,47 km section will be opened to traffic this fall, although the contractual term is spring 2026. This lot will ensure the connection between the northern semi-ring of the A0 (Bucharest Ring Road) and the A2 (Sun Motorway).
The contract, financed by the Transport Program, has a value of 312,63 million lei excluding VAT and a duration of 30 months. In addition, the Construction Authorization for Section 3 (Leghin-Targu Neamt) of the Targu Mures-Targu Neamt Motorway, part of the A8 section, was issued.
The works will take place on the territory of several administrative units in Neamt and Iasi counties, with a length of 29,9 km and must be completed by 2026. The contract, financed by the PNRR, has a value of 1,56 billion lei excluding VAT and is being carried out by a Romanian constructor. On the route of this new motorway section, 13 bridges, two viaducts, eight passages and a Maintenance and Coordination Center (CIC) will be built.
This series of initiatives reflects Romania's commitment to improving transport infrastructure and strengthening economic and trade relations with its partners in the European Union.
