Sorin Grindeanu, Minister of Transport, has great news for millions of Romanians, because after a long wait, the designation of the constructor for a new lot of the Unirii Motorway (A8) has been officially announced. A Romanian company has obtained the contract for the design and execution of the Pipirig – Vanatori Neamt (Leghin) lot of the Targu Mures-Targu Neamt motorway section.
Sorin to Grindean reports that this contract, worth 2,69 billion lei excluding VAT, was put out to tender by the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR). The project foresees the construction of this lot within 48 months, of which 12 months for the design period and 36 months for the execution of the works.
The 19,3-kilometer route will include the construction of seven tunnels, five bidirectional and two unidirectional, with a total length of 1,44 kilometers. These facilities are essential for ensuring smooth and safe traffic on the entire highway.
Sorin Grindeanu also stated that the financing of the contract is carried out through the Transport Program (PT) 2021-2027, thus ensuring the necessary resources for the completion of the project. If no objections are filed, the contract can be signed within 10 days from the designation.
"This contract represents an important step in the completion of the Unirii Motorway and contributes significantly to the development of road infrastructure in our country. We are proud that a Romanian company managed to win this tender, demonstrating the quality and competitiveness of national companies on the large infrastructure construction market," said Minister Grindeanu.
The Unirii Highway project is essential for connecting the western and eastern regions of Romania, facilitating the transport of people and goods, and contributing to the economic development of neighboring countries. The completion of this section will considerably reduce travel time between Targu Mures and Targu Neamt, thus improving the quality of life of citizens and the efficiency of commercial transport.
Sorin Grindeanur issued an Order regarding the publication of resolution MEPC.381(80), which establishes the date from which certain regulations of Annex I to MARPOL relating to the Special Areas of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden will take effect.
This measure, adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization on July 7, 2023, is part of the government's efforts to align national legislation with international marine environmental standards.
The Romanian Naval Authority will ensure the implementation of the provisions of this order, thus strengthening Romania's commitment to protecting the marine environment.
