Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture, has officially announced the action it is carrying out at the end of January for Romania, as it has decided to participate today in the first AgriFish Council meeting of this year, held in Brussels.
Florin Beard officially reports that the event brought together officials and representatives from European Union member countries to discuss and debate essential issues related to agriculture and fisheries, sectors vital to the region's economy and food security.
The meeting's agenda included several important points, including the presentation of the Polish presidency's work programme. The Polish President outlined his plans and priorities in the fields of agriculture and fisheries for the next six months, focusing on innovation, sustainability and strengthening the internal market.
Florin Barbu stressed the importance of collaboration between member states to achieve these common objectives. Another major topic discussed was combating unfair trading practices within the agricultural and food supply chain.
The Minister of Agriculture mentioned the need to implement strict regulations to ensure compliance with EU rules and prevent unfair competition, thus protecting the interests of local farmers and producers. The proposed regulation in this regard was analyzed in detail, and the Minister stressed the importance of effective cross-border monitoring.
Strengthening the position of farmers in the supply chain was another central point of the discussions. The Minister of Agriculture advocated for modifying the common organization of the markets, so that farmers benefit from more favorable conditions and have a more important role in the process of food production and distribution. This initiative aims not only to improve the economic situation of farmers, but also to increase transparency and efficiency in the supply chain.
In addition to these topics, the meeting also addressed issues related to agricultural trade, a recurring topic on the AgriFish Council agenda. The information provided by the European Commission served as the basis for in-depth discussions on the opportunities and challenges in the sector, with a focus on adaptation to economic and climate change.
Following the presentation by the Polish President, the representatives of the Member States analysed the need to revise the performance verification procedure under the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funding rules and green architecture. Minister Barbu supported the need for further simplification of these procedures to make them more efficient and easier to implement, reducing bureaucracy and facilitating farmers' access to funding.
Minister Florin Barbu's participation in this meeting highlights Romania's commitment to playing an active role in the development and implementation of agricultural and fisheries policies at European level. Through its involvement, Romania contributes to building a sustainable, competitive and well-integrated agricultural sector in the European single market, thus benefiting from synergies and growth opportunities.
