Important Challenges Brought to Attention by Florin Barbu for Agriculture in Romania

Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture, confirms a new extremely important action that it has taken in order to implement important new measures in Romania, and this is because it participates on February 10, 2025, at the headquarters of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) in Bucharest, at the conference of the Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation (AAC), on the occasion of the anniversary of 5 years of activity.

Florin Beard reports that the event aimed to debate the current priorities and challenges of the agricultural sector, the strategic directions proposed for 2025, as well as the balance sheet of the activities carried out by AAC for the benefit of farmers.

On this occasion, the minister reviewed the support programs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) and the state aid schemes offered to farmers in 2024, stating that these will be continued in 2025. Florin Barbu emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting farmers through investment-focused policies, with the objective of reducing the trade deficit in the balance of Romanian agri-food products.

The Minister of Agriculture highlighted the importance of simplifying procedures for easy access of farmers to resources, thus ensuring income stability and increasing competitiveness. In this context, the Minister referred to the investment projects that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will launch in 2025, essential for increasing competitiveness in the livestock sector.

Florin Barbu says that for the pig sector, 2,8 billion lei is foreseen for reproduction, and for the development of poultry farms, 1 billion lei is targeted for financing. Also, this year, funds are planned for the construction of beef heifer farms; also through the National Strategic Plan, Romanian farmers will be able to benefit from amounts intended for the purchase of breeding sows.

The development of the irrigation system is another priority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, with 1,5 billion lei allocated in the budget for this purpose. Equally, the Investalim program will allow for continued investments in the processing sector in Romania.

Florin Barbu assured farmers that he will continue the efforts at the European Council level to support the external convergence of direct payments under the Common Agricultural Policy and to review European regulations, so as to reduce the administrative burden on farmers.

Florin Barbu thanked the associative forms for the close collaboration and constructive dialogue, calling for unity and cooperation for the benefit of farmers and the development of Romanian agriculture. The minister was accompanied by the leadership of the AM PNDR department within the MADR and the subordinate institutions – APIA, AFIR, ANIF, ANF. The event was held with the participation of the Secretary General of Copa Cogeca, the Rector of USAMV, the President of ASAS and the leadership of the associative forms within the Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation.
